Fogo Island Inn opened its doors in the spring of 2013. Since then, they have welcomed guests from around the world and have been recognized as a unique world-class travel destination. In countless publications, the Inn has been praised for its outstanding architectural design, its one-of-a-kind community program and its commitment to investing in local economy. That’s where Obasan comes in.
Designed by an architect who grew up in Newfoundland, the contemporary Inn is furnished with quiet luxuries. Its mission is to support local producers. All 29 suites contain locally-made furniture and décor – from the quilts to the chairs and wallpaper patterns. And of course, the beds.
Obasan’s relationship with the Inn has proven to be a very good fit since it is our goal to develop sustainable relationships that benefit local economies while accessing the finest raw material.
Many travellers are seeking more these days. They want to know that they are contributing to fair and just practices in every aspect of the travel experience; from the food served, to the furnishings utilized, and to the larger social context of the place they are visiting. At the end of the day, they also expect a good night’s sleep. Every room at the Inn features custom-made king beds, made from all-natural organic materials by Obasan. Time and again, guests have raved about the outstanding quality of the beds, some even going as far as to say that it was difficult to leave the comfort of their room.
