The Child Organic Mattress offers clean, supportive sleep for every stage of childhood. With two firmness levels in one mattress, it adapts as your child grows while maintaining healthy spinal alignment and a safe, non-toxic sleep environment.

The Obasan Organic Kids Mattress is thoughtfully designed to grow alongside your child.

Handcrafted in Canada using the same premium materials and craftsmanship as our adult mattresses, it features a dual-firmness core that adapts to changing sleep needs over time. One side offers firm support for younger children, while the other provides medium-firm comfort as your child grows taller and heavier.

Built entirely from certified organic latex, cotton, and wool, the mattress creates a breathable, temperature-regulating sleep environment free from harmful chemicals, synthetic foams, or flame retardants. From the transition out of the crib through the pre-teen years, it delivers long-lasting support you can trust.

Weight Recommendation
Recommended for children from toddler age through adolescence. Suitable for growing bodies up to approximately 150 lbs (68kg).

For best performance, your Obasan mattress should be placed on a firm, supportive foundation with built-in breathability, such as wooden slats or a ventilated platform base.

Slatted Base/Foundation

We recommend a slatted mattress base or foundation with:

  • Metal or wooden slats spaced no more than 3” apart
  • Slats that are  2” - 6” wide
  • A centre support bar running vertically down the middle of the frame
  • One or more centre legs to further support the centre beam. This becomes especially helpful for larger mattresses (Queen, King, or California King).

Solid Wood Base/Foundation

If your foundation has a solid wood surface, it must include ventilation for airflow. We recommend: 

  • Vent holes approximately 1” in diameter
  • Spaced about 12-15” apart

 ensure it has holes or vents for recommended breathability. We typically recommend holes of about 1" diameter every 12-15" apart.

Mattress Care:

  • Flip layers every 6 months to extend the lifespan of your child’s mattress. Alternate the rotation each time: first rotation head to toe, next rotation left to right, and continue alternating.
  • Removable mattress cover can be aired out seasonally.
  • Do not wash any components of your mattress. If necessary, spot clean with a mild soap and very little water. Air dry.
  • Do not place mattress layers in direct sunlight or direct heat source.
  • For added protection, we recommend pairing with an Obasan Organic Wool Mattress Protector for accidents in the night. 

In order for your mattress to breathe properly, we recommend placing your mattress on an Obasan Foundation or an equivalent solid wood slat base. If you’re unsure if your foundation will work, one of our Sleep Specialists would be happy to help you.

No. This mattress is designed for young children and adolescents transitioning out of a crib. For infants, we recommend our dedicated organic baby mattress.

The Kids Mattress features one firm side for children under the age of six and one medium-firm side as your child grows. By flipping the mattress, you can adapt the comfort level to their changing body weight, sleep needs, and spinal alignment over time.

We recommend using our wool mattress protector to protect against spills and accidents.For spot cleaning, gently scrub the affected area with mild soap and very little water. Allow it to air dry completely. Do not wash any of the mattress components.
