Our Story

A story shaped by curiosity, care, and a lifelong pursuit of better sleep. What began with one founder’s curiosity about organic comfort and materials continues to guide everything we make today.

OUR BEGINNING

Built on Care, Not Chemicals

Our founder, Jean Corriveau, began his understanding of sleep early, working alongside a family friend in the mattress industry while he finished his studies. There, he learned that true comfort isn’t accidental, but the result of thoughtful design, honest materials, and careful craftsmanship. In 1985, he founded Obasan with a clear purpose: to build mattresses that support the body naturally and stand the test of time.

For over forty years, Jean has dedicated himself to studying sleep and refining how mattresses are made. His work has taken him around the world, from organic cotton fields to latex tree farms, forming long-standing relationships with ethical growers and makers. These partnerships, revisited year after year, ensure that every Obasan mattress is crafted with integrity, intention, and respect for people and the planet.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief: when you sleep well, you live well.

OUR VALUES

What We Stand For

Our values are the foundation of every product we craft and every decision we make. They guide how we scale our systems and how we engage with our community, ensuring that each product reflects a deeper commitment to doing things thoughtfully, responsibly, and with purpose.

Honesty

Transparency is at the core of everything we do, from the materials we choose and the certifications we uphold, to the advice we give our customers. We believe in clarity, integrity, and doing what’s right, even when it’s not the easiest path.

Quality

We don’t believe in shortcuts. Every product is made with care and intention, crafted to perform and built to last. If it doesn’t meet our standards for comfort, durability, and respect for people and the planet, it doesn’t belong at Obasan.

Innovation

Sleep evolves, and so do we. Through constant learning, research, and refinement, we continue to improve our products, processes, and customer experience. Driven by passion and progress, we never settle for “good enough.”

PARTNERS AROUND THE GLOBE

Sourcing the World’s Best Organic Materials

Creating exceptional mattresses means going beyond borders. Over the years, our search for the finest raw materials has taken us across the globe. Along the way, we have built long-term relationships with partners who share our values of quality, ethics, and sustainability. Your mattress will carry the very threads of these global friendships.

Organic Cotton | Peru

Organic cotton grown in the Cañete Valley, cultivated under GOTS certification and processed entirely within the country to ensure purity, traceability, and exceptional softness.

Organic Wool | Argentina

Organic Corriedale wool comes from free-roaming sheep raised in untouched landscapes of Patagonia, prized for its resilience, breathability, and natural comfort.

Organic Latex | Sri Lanka

Organic GOLS-certified latex is tapped from Hevea trees and molded and baked using the Dunlop process, resulting in durable and breathable support cores.

SUSTAINABILITY FORWARD

Thoughtful Craftsmanship, Lower Impact

At Obasan, sustainability is built into how we design and make our products. Our made-to-order process reduces waste, our facility operates with carbon-neutral initiatives, and we have chosen to use recyclable, paper-based packaging. We also repurpose organic latex, wool, and cotton off-cuts into pillows and accessories, extending the life of every material and minimizing landfill waste.
