QUALITY, ORGANIC MATERIALS

There are many things that distinguish an Obasan organic mattress from a conventional mattress. One of the most important is the material we use to create our mattresses.

ORGANIC COTTON

The cotton used in all Obasan mattresses and bedding is organically grown and harvested. It is chemical-free and certified to the highest standards by recognized international bodies.

The benefits: Void of toxic chemicals inhaled during sleep, breathable, comfortable, soft to the touch, machine washable.

ORGANIC WOOL

All Obasan wool batting used in our mattresses, organic pillows, and organic comforters / duvets and wool fill is organic and pure. It is processed without chemicals, dye, or oils. The wool comes from a family business in Argentina, where sheep graze on land that has never been used for agriculture, ensuring that it is free from pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers.

The benefits: Absorbent, resilient in form and shape, dust mite resistant.  Thermo-regulating properties mean you are cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. It is a natural renewable resource that’s fire retardant and most importantly, comfortable.

NATURAL RUBBER

For the support core of Obasan organic mattresses, we use the finest grade A natural rubber. All Obasan rubber is harvested by tapping the milk of Hevea brasiliensis trees in Malaysia and cooked using the dunlop process. The material destabilizes quickly, however, and while some companies use chemicals to avoid this problem, we mold it into sheets on the same day before shipping it back to Canada.

The benefits: Superior durability and elasticity, retention of shape and firmness, excellent heat and moisture regulation, superior air circulation and dust mite resistant.

RENEWABLE CANADIAN WOOD

Obasan bed foundations and box springs are made from seasoned, untreated, carefully selected natural spruce. Wood is produced in Quebec through sustainable harvesting methods that ensure forests don’t suffer intrusive damage.

The benefits: Superior durability and elasticity, retention of shape and firmness, excellent heat and moisture regulation, superior air circulation and dust mite resistant. It’s a natural renewable resource that’s very resilient, great for support, and anti-microbial.
